This is my first post and I'm not quite sure what to say, but I'll let you know some of the things that are on my mind.
Regardless of whether we should be in Iraq or not, we must see it through to the end. Yes, we took an evil dictator, that had hundreds of thousands of his own people killed, out of power. Maybe we did it at the wrong time, or the wrong way, but it was done and nothing can change the fact. It is going to take many years for a democratic government to take hold in Iraq, but I think it will be worth the time and expense. Remember, Germany and Japan were basically run by dictators and we defeated, then rebuilt them with democratic governments and they turned out pretty good. Also, having a stronghold in the Middle East gives us a "friendly" place where we can "keep an eye" on terrorist activity in the region.
If Congress continues to add the stipulation of a troop withdrawal date to the funding bill, they are doing our troops, our country, and the world a grave injustice. If a withdrawal date is set, the insurgents and terrorists will have a "green light" to enter Iraq and undo everything that has been done. Thousands of American soldiers will have died in vain!
When President Bush continues to veto different versions of the same bill and we run out of money for the troops, Congress will say that they approved allocations for the troops and the president vetoed every attempt. They will make president Bush out to be the bad guy while allowing Iraq to become another dictatorship!
This is an insane method for congress to get their way.
